Terms

Last updated 3 October 2026

These terms cover buying and playing Formicarium, and using fieldnotessim.com. Nothing here affects your legal rights as a consumer.

Who we are

Field Notes makes simulated specimens, starting with Formicarium. You can reach us at fieldnotes.sim@mail.com.

Buying

Our order process is conducted by our online reseller, Lemon Squeezy. Lemon Squeezy is the Merchant of Record for all our orders: it takes the payment, charges any VAT or sales tax, and sends your receipt. Its own terms apply to the purchase itself.

Buying gets you a licence key that unlocks starting your own colonies.

Your licence

• One purchase gives you a personal licence to play Formicarium on up to 3 of your own devices.
• Each device you unlock uses one of the 3. If you change devices or clear your browser's data and run out, email us and we'll free them up.
• Please don't share, sell or publish your key, or copy and redistribute the game itself.
• You're welcome to share screenshots and videos of your colonies.

The game

Formicarium runs in your web browser. Your settings and your licence are kept on your device, so clearing your browser's data removes them; your key will unlock it again.

We may update the game, and we'll keep it working for people who've bought it, but we can't promise particular future features. The game is provided as it is: we've worked hard on it, but like any software it may have bugs.

Refunds

Full refunds within 14 days. See the Refunds page.

Changes and law

If we change these terms we'll update the date at the top; the version in place when you bought applies to your purchase. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
